AI Policy

Implemented 20 OCT 2025

Green Hill Publishing is committed to producing original, high-quality, and ethically created content. In alignment with our values and legal obligations, we do not permit the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools for cover design, illustration, editing, or other creative design elements in our publications.

Generative AI may seem convenient for design, but it carries significant legal, ethical, and reputational risks for the author and publisher. By not endorsing AI design, we protect our authors from copyright disputes, support human creatives who rely on fair work, and maintain the originality and quality readers expect. A restrictive policy isn’t about rejecting technology; it’s about safeguarding our future and ensuring trust in our publishing brand.

If an author requests the use of AI in their book design

  • The author must sign a waiver releasing Green Hill Publishing from any liability related to copyright infringement, quality concerns, or reputational risks arising from the use of AI-generated design.
  • Green Hill Publishing will make a note on the Briefing Session Summary that the author has requested/agreed for the use of AI in their design.
  • The author is required to disclose AI use to all relevant distribution platforms (e.g., IngramSpark, Amazon KDP, or others as applicable).
  • A statement must also be included on the copyright page of the book, acknowledging that AI-generated design elements were used and the AI software utilised to create it.
  • Green Hill Publishing will clearly document that the request for AI use originated with the author and does not represent the publisher’s standard practice or recommendation.

If an author has used AI in the writing of their book

  • The author is required to disclose AI use to all relevant distribution platforms (e.g., IngramSpark, Amazon KDP, or others as applicable).

AI and Illustration

  • We will not use AI in the generation of children’s book illustrations. We will always refer our authors to an illustrator. It is up to the author how they approach the illustration process after that.
  • We will not use any illustrator’s work to prompt AI to generate further illustrations or regenerate current illustrations, etc. The author will need to approach the illustrator for any adjustments needed to the illustration or for extra illustrations.

AI and Editing

  • We do not use AI to perform or replace the work of professional editors. AI editing or rewriting tools are not to be used in place of professional editorial input.
  • We will always pass on editing work to one of our trusted editing partners. It is up to the author how they wish to approach the editing process once returned.
  • We will not use an editor’s work to prompt AI tools, generate further edits, or replicate the author’s or editor’s style.
  • Any revisions or adjustments to the text must be made directly with the editor or by the author themselves.
