The Omega Writers 2025 CALEB Award

Why is Green Hill Publishing getting behind the Caleb Award?
We are backers of the Caleb Award because our core mission is to help writers bringing their content to readers. We believe our core mission aligns closely with the objectives of both Tabor and Omega and as such are very pleased to be able to partner to bring an unpublished manuscript to readers.
The famous Dutch post-impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh is believed to have sold only one painting: The Red Vineyard (1888), which was purchased by in early 1890. This is significant because van Gogh is known to have produced over 800 oil paintings in his short life – less than 1/800th or 0.125% of his work was purchased. We see parallels between van Gogh and writers today. There’s a whole lot of very fine writing going on, but not a lot of it is reaching readers.
The publishing industry has changed rapidly since the early 2000’s with the progress of digital print-on-demand technology and new models of book selling including on-line environments. The data confirms that brick-and-mortar bookshops are on the endangered list. And that the ratio of writing to those who actually publish through traditional methods is falling. This being the case, the model of traditional publishing with a hierarchy of agents, brokers, publishing companies, distribution channels looks dated. While not dismissing the value of traditional publishing, we encourage writers to place their efforts within the context of this new way of doing things.
